Damn you James Blunt!
I was driving to work the other day, minding my own business when Jame's Blunt's 'You're Beautiful' came on the radio and all of a sudden thoughts and images of Lady X came rushing back to me. I have no idea where that may have come from but I guess at that point I was paying attention to the lyrics for once...
My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I got a plan.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was ,
Fucking high,
And I don't think I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last til the end.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face.
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.
Dammit... I was doing so well.
The weird thing about that is I've heard that song numerous times and didn't think about her once. Don't get me wrong, I have always thought highly of her and always will. I suppose those unresolved feelings I have for her that still dwell deep within me, really identified with what he was singing about.
Next thing I know I'm out on my dinner break going to Tower Records and buying "Back to Bedlam" to further torture myself. I'm kidding of course, but now that I had that song in my head, I was curious to see what the rest of his CD was like. I thought about buying it for some time but never got around to it. Afterall, heard a lot of good things about it and now I had a reason to pick it up.
And I'm glad I did because I really like it. I guess what I like most is the bittersweet quality of his voice coupled with the melancholy lyrics, which is how I would best describe the (brief) time I spent with her.
