Still Cranking Away...

Up late night watching Fox Soccer Channel to see if there's any late breaking news leading up to the big Euro 2008 Final on Sunday. For those of you that didn't know, my interest and appreciation for the sport of soccer has grown over the last few years dating back to the 2004 World Cup.

Spain-Germany has the makings of a classic final. I've been pulling for Spain because they've underachieved for so long and they certainly have the talent. I'm thinking it's their time but the Germans won't roll over you can count on that. I'll probably end up watching the game at this bar T and I went to last week in Medford. In typical fashion I was able to get under the skin of some Turkish fan (he was rooting for Italy, how the hell was I supposed to know he was Turkish) after I said that it would be Spain vs. Germany for the title. That prediction didn't go over well with the Bulgarian barback who was rather smug about Russia's surge to the semifinal against Spain. I also don't think he liked the fact that when he told us he was Bulgarian and not Russian and I said "ah same thing."

Needless to say I can't wait to see if those guys will be waiting for me there.

Pixar

Getting ready for bed, watching "The Pixar Story," yet another source of inspiration. It's amazing to me how once again George Lucas played another major role in the development of Pixar, yet another source of inspiration for me. Just goes to show what happens when talented, creative , hard working people get together are nurtured and encouraged to follow their instincts and talents will take them.

Speaking of Pixar, it's almost a year ago when I set off with the rest of the "Mild,Mild, West" posse cross country for Jules and Angie's wedding. At the end of the trip, on our way to the Home Run Derby, me, Bob and Janice took the bus from Emeryville to the BART. Before we arrived at the BART station I noticed that we passed the Pixar campus and forgot that is where Pixar is located! By that point I was already in love with the Bay Area and soon thoughts of living and working there at a place like Pixar was too cool to comprehend.

Maybe one day I'll knuckle up and move out there to see where that fork in the road would lead me. Dare to dream.

Tired

See I told you I was trying to turn over a new leaf. Just wanted to roll over and pass out but I'm determined to make good on blogging everyday. Went for a run today (treadmill as usual) and was glad to see that my stamina was right where I need it to be.

The new Saucony's I got a few weeks ago are proving to be every bit as good as the Nike Air Max 360s I've been running on the last few years. And at $40 you can't go wrong. The last two nights I've REALLY had to force myself to get to the gym and each time I'm glad I did. If I'm really going to try and get into the best shape that I can get into (especially at my age), I really need to buckle down.

Same thing with writing. Hopefully the discipline required to get my body into that "Abercrombie" mold will also translate into me writing regularly and generating story ideas consistently.

Another false start?

Only time will tell whether or not I can find the discipline to actually commit to writing or blogging or whatever. I have to start or in this case restart somewhere right? As I write this I find myself reading as much as I can about the process of writing.

From books I've borrowed and re-borrowed from the good old Sachem public library to buying magazines dedicated to writing. I'm even contemplating buying screenplay software to help me with formatting once I do get around to writing that elusive screenplay.

Like I said, only time will tell whether or not I can ride this bit of momentum anywhere.
